What is a blog?

Let's start with the basic question. What is a blog anyway? A blog is nothing more than your own website on a specific topic. There, the operator writes a variety of articles on a particular topic or life that he or she has posted online.

The topics can be anything the operator is interested in, from household tips to various building instructions for the garden. For me it was the topic of finances and the interest to make my own life as easy as possible! That's why I started this blog together with my friend Jonas!

Tip: If you plan to create your own blog then you should also know your goal! Our goal is to help as many people as possible to get their finances under control and to make their lives that little bit more carefree. So now you should know what a blog is and why it exists here. If you now feel like putting your own blog on the net, you should of course also know how to do it!

How do I create a blog?

You don't need a lot to create your own blog and it's very easy! You only need four things to urge started:

• WordPress
• A domain name
• A hosting
• Theme

WordPress:

WordPress is the executive program of a blog! With this program you write your posts and manage your blog in general, this includes comments, your funnels, projects and much more! You can imagine WordPress as similar to the writing programs "Word" or "OpenOffice". It is easy to use and will make things easier for you in the future compared to other programs!

A Domain Name: 

What is a domain name? The domain name is probably the most important thing about your blog! This is the name that users have to enter to find you! With us it's for example 'www.google.com' The name is so important because you can never change it again! Yes, you read that right, you can never change it again. Therefore, before you start a blog, you should be 100% sure what you want to call it. You can also check whether your desired domain is still available, just click here! You should also make sure that your ending is correct (.de; .com; .web) If you want to start a German blog and want to stay that way, .de is an advantage, otherwise everything else looks dubious .com still okay.

A Hosting: 

In order to put your blog on the Internet for the whole world, you still need a hoster. This provides you with the necessary server and ensures that everything stays up and running. We decided on raid boxes *! Jonas already runs his own blog and has only had positive experiences with this host, so we can only recommend him!

Theme: 

With the theme you give your blog a personal touch! This is the presentation of the blog in the eye of the beholder. With the theme you determine how your blog should look and which features it should contain. That means which pictures should be in which place, which text should appear when, which colors the buttons should have etc. WordPress also has a lot to offer and has a huge selection of different themes! We ourselves use Divi for this, for example.

So now you know what a blog is, what is important and how you can start one yourself. Now you are probably wondering ...

What does a blog cost me?

This question is quite justified because unfortunately you will not be able to do all of this for free. To start a blog you don't need a lot of money, just a few euros to keep it going.

Let's do a rough estimate, your costs only amount to your domain, your hoster and your theme when the going gets tough. A domain costs an average of 1.50 € per year, so we would be 0.12 € per month! Your hoster is a little more expensive here and amounts to around € 15 a month.

So we would be here with monthly costs of 15.12 €. With your theme you can decide for yourself whether you want to pay for it or not. As already mentioned at the beginning, WordPress offers you many different themes and some of them are free of charge.

However, if you should decide on a paid theme, you have to pay this price once a year and then calculate it as a monthly price. With us, the price for Divi is $ 89 per year that would be € 82 (as of March 24, 2020) per year and about € 6.83 per month.

Then we would be at a total cost of € 21.95 per month! As you can see, your own blog is not exactly expensive and can therefore be created and maintained by anyone.

Tip: If you intend to equip your blog with a theme for a long time, it can sometimes be worthwhile to use the offers of the dealers! Then you pay a higher one-time price, but you can save so much money in the future.

Now you know how much money you need to keep your blog alive. But? Why should you only spend money? Isn't this about making money? And….

How can I make money from a blog?

I guess that's the question you've been waiting for, right? Well then let me answer you. There are many various ways you'll make money from your blog. But here I'll show you the most lucrative ones to get your investment back in.

1. Your own product

By your own product, I mean an e-book or course that you can sell to your readers for a reasonable price. With a long range, you can quickly collect a lot of money.

Of course it takes a while until you have the necessary reach together and potential buyers. However, this is probably the best method to successfully earn money with your blog in the long term.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is something like that. However, you are not promoting your own product but someone else's and you receive a commission for it. That means if you market a product for 50 € and sell it successfully you will receive a commission of mostly 50%, that would be 25 € gross for you!

For this, you should have a correspondingly large range because the profit here is also much lower than with your own product.

3. Partnerships with brands

The last profitable way to make big bucks on your blog is through a paid partnership with a big brand. Here you get products or discount codes that you can pass on to your readers and thus receive a commission per sale.

Since such partnerships are not easy to get, you are only in third place here because you should bring a certain range of a few hundred thousand visitors with you.

With these 3 possibilities, however, you should have enough potential to cover your monthly costs for the blog and to be able to earn some extra money. How much money is behind it I can't tell you in general because that depends on you! I know people who can live quite well with low 5-digit amounts per month and only one of the 3 options.

However, there are also those who use each of these methods and only earn a few hundred euros with them. It all just depends on the implementation and how you sell it. In order to be able to earn legal money with your blog, you also have to register a business! To do this, you should go to the trade office in your city.
